As we mentioned earlier, while our site is up and running there are probably hundreds if not more sites with identical content. To be successful, we need some original content so we’re going to go back to Fiverr and see what we can find. Stay tuned.

Fiverr Experiment – CMS Selection

We determined that designing straight HTML or using a more exotic technology for our site would limit the number of people that would be able to help us on Fiverr. As a result, we’ve opted to use a content management system (CMS).

We searched Fiverr by simply entering in the names of every CMS we could think of into their search box and found the top three:

Drupal has 138 results at the time we did the search
Joomla had 371
Wordpress had 3240

So, we’re going to go with WordPress. Now our VPS utilizes cpanel and Fantastico thus giving us the ability to install WordPress automatically. We’ve decided against this for the time being as we noticed individuals selling wordpress sites already to go for $5!

We searched for dog wordpress sites and found three people that would send us a wordpress site ready to go with dog training content. Not exactly dogs for families but it will get us started. While none of those people have received any feedback, we noticed two of them were very similar, one told us it actually cost $25 and you would need to buy his gig 5 times to complete the purchase. We tried to load their demo site just to see and nothing happened. So by default, we’re going to spend our first $5 with Artyray and see what happens. Stay tuned!

Fiverr Experiment – Domain Name and Hosting

September 10th, 2011 admin Posted in Fiverr Experiment 2 Comments »

After doing some research and looking through Fiverr we wanted to find a niche that enough people knew about and understood that this experiment wouldn’t take forever. Our choice is dogs, specifically finding the right dog for your family.

The domain name will be: dogforfamily.com

We already have a VPS so we will host the site ourselves. Everything else from here on out will be done utilizing Fiverr as we discussed in the introduction to our Fiverr Experiment.

Fiverr Website Experiment

September 10th, 2011 admin Posted in Fiverr Experiment No Comments »

Introduction

I ran across an interesting site note too long ago called Fiverr. Now this isn’t anything exactly new, as the site and many sites like it have been around for awhile, I just hadn’t spent any time on them until now.

The premise of Fiverr is to allow anyone to offer a ‘gig’ and complete a specific task in exchange for $5. The variety of tasks is rather overwhelming, some serious and some silly. So that got me thinking. What would happen if we tried to build an entire website from scratch and promote it only using Fiverr? Yes, again I realize that there may be sites better suited to this particular task but I ran across Fiverr first, so that is who we will use for our experiment.

Our goal is to create a website in a reasonable niche with a reasonable domain name and spend $100 on Fiverr to make it all happen. I will obtain the domain name and hosting on my own but will otherwise use Fiverr exclusively and you can follow along and see how we do!

As we build our new site, I will provide links to the individuals offering the gigs we use but not the specific gigs themselves. The reason is many of the gigs are only around for a limited time or available for a limited number of people and I don’t want to end up with numerous deadlinks. By linking to the people you’ll be able to see all of their open gigs and contact them if you so desire.

So let’s get started!
